Day Two: Visits
Events: Tour of Old House, Quick Trip to Huntington & Catching Up with a Close Friend
My family has lived in two houses since my sister and I were born. We moved from the first one in 1990. It is crazy to think that we’ve been away from that house twice as long as I lived there. I decided to take the current owner up on his twenty-year old offer for us to come back any time.
I had no idea what to expect and was a little surprised at how emotional I got when Dad, Jim, and I pulled into the driveway. But as soon as we walked in, it was fantastic. It was great seeing small things that remained unchanged and taking a quick trip down memory lane. Of course, the rooms and countertops seemed much smaller, but overall it was very familiar. The major change was the addition of a bathroom in the basement. (Upgrade!)
This is a shot of “my” tree in the front yard. I had claimed it because it was in front of my bedroom window. (It’s worth mentioning that mine totally outgrew Megan’s tree.)

After lunch, Jim and I drove to Huntington. As I spent five of my thirty years there at Marshall University, I had to include a visit in my celebrations.
First stop was the Spring Hill Cemetery to visit the memorial from Marshall’s 1970 football team’s plane crash.

Next stop: The Union Pub & Grill. This place was my favorite hang out spot while I was in college. I made some great friends within these walls and every time I visit, I go back to those fun-filled evenings (& early mornings). Contrary to the looks on our faces, Jim and I had a good time there today, as well.

Day Two was topped off with a visit from one of my oldest, dearest friends, Boone. Boone and I have been friends since we compared our impressive belching skills (no kidding) in junior high. He’s been like a brother to me over the years and one of the constants in my life. So glad he stopped by. (And that Jim managed to catch his smirk on camera—not an easy task.)

Day Two was packed with fun! It was so busy, I am sort of looking forward to a slower day tomorrow. But I had such a great time today! I can’t thank Dad enough for arranging the house visit and I want to give Jim a big MUCHAS GRACIAS for trekking to Huntington with me!
