Day Twenty: NC State Fairgrounds
Event: Strolling Around the Flea Market at the NC State Fairgrounds
The Raleigh Flea Market is held at the fairgrounds every Saturday and Sunday. Even if you’re not looking for a specific find, wandering the grounds is a fun (free!) way to spend a weekend morning. Let’s face it, the Flea Market makes the Longbranch feel like the minors in the game of people watching.

Of course the crowds are interesting. Is there another place besides a flea market where you can get your ears pierced, have a cartoon portrait made of yourself, and refill your ink cartridges before buying DVDs, Made in NC socks, a few swords, some tanned hide, a little soap, a rebel flag belt buckle, and electronic cigarettes all without leaving the parking lot? I submit that there is not.
But if there is, I bet it doesn’t have one of these!

Throw in some crying kids and gratuitous use of quotation marks
and I’d say you have yourself an ideal way to spend a sunny Saturday morning.
Fortunately, I made it back to my car before these guys opened up.

Being there this morning reminded me how much I enjoy this place. I’ll head back soon. I mean, I can’t possibly keep wearing socks made outside of the state, can I?
